Samsung NC215S - Solar Netbook

Samsung have announced a world’s first with the Samsung NC215S netbook. It’s the first and only solar netbook.
The Samsung NC-215S is essentially the Samsung NP-NC110 with a solar panel integrated into the lid of the netbook. The solar powered netbook was initially announced for release in Africa and Russia, but has recently been given the green light for release in the US. Our Samsung contact tells us that the netbook should be available mid or late August.
The Samsung NC215S can of course also be charged using a standard mains power, and the 6-cell battery will provide 14 hours of run time. Samsung say that the solar panel on the netbook will charge the netbook for one hour of use for every two hours in the sun.
While there are specialist solar accessories for laptops etc, they are usually very expensive, and have a large external battery. With the NC215S Samsung has produced a very elegant solution.

The Samsung solar powered netbook features a 1024 x 700 pixel 10.1-inch Superbright LED screen with anti-reflective coating (Ideal for outside usage) and is powered by the Intel Atom Dual core N570 processor, with 1GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and also features 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 10/10 LAN, and Bluetooth V3.0 High speed. It is also very slim at 0.93-inches and weighs just 2.87 lbs.
This is not only good for eco-minded people but also great for the traveler / explorer. Netbooks being small and having long battery life has already made them the ideal travel companion. But Samsung have taken this one step further, enabling you to travel without the constant need to find a power source.
