We first heard that ASUS’ MacBook Air competitor, the UX21, will be under $1,000 and today we’re hearing from Digitimes that it’ll be $100 cheaper than a MacBook Air with similar specifications. Of course, Apple’s offerings are still based on older processors but the company is expected to refresh the lineup in June or July. Since the base price of the 11.6-inch MacBook Air goes for $999 are we looking at a base price of $899 for the UX21?
Powering the UX21 are 2nd-gen Intel Core i processors (Sandy Bridge), Core i3 to i7, up to 4GB of RAM, Sata III SSD storage (64GB or 128GB), “Instant On” functionality, 7 hour battery, 2x USB 3.0, headphone and mini HDMI. This model on display (UX21) has an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 display (glossy) with a Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz) CPU. We’re expecting the UX21 out sometime in this latter half of the year.
